RAT HACK
A downloadable game
RAT HACK is a semiotic comedy mapmaking lore game & an absurdist hack of Avery Alder's The Quiet Year. This game was designed to accommodate for larger play groups than advised or the original game with copious amounts of added Rat themes. The game drastically deviates from the more serious & contemplative tone of the original, opting for a more nonsense-charged take on reckless Rat joy in hard times. This game is an installment in the dubious continuity that is RAT LORE, but requires no knowledge of Rat Lore or strict Rat styling to play.
This hack allows for paired player groups representing supposedly binary opposite concepts or other unified conflicting concepts in a power struggle to assert their conceptual ideals in this strange, temporary place. Further mechanics allow for establishing distinct characters, fleshing out one's affinity, esoteric PvP abilities, & "lore events."
Designed for 4 or more players (ideally 6+) for a 2-4 hour game.
Basic Materials:
- Large sheet of paper
- Drawing/writing utensils
- Deck of 52 standard suited cards
- Index cards
- 5 or more d6 dice
- Tokens of some kind (10+)
- (Optional) Whiteboard or chalkboard
Book features collected ideas on how to further Hack the Hack into a strange experience.
